SERMON NOTES
- We can’t worship a god who we don’t know. And once we do know Him, it should affect all of life
- “lifestyle change” should prompt us to pour back into the God who makes the change in us. We should celebrate Him for this, and with enthusiasm
- Many things inspire us to celebrate–whether that is celestial bodies, natural beauty on Earth, or wonderful works of art
- We experience undeniable moments of majesty, and these moments are usually universally agreed upon by witnesses. The same dynamic should be present when we worship God
- We should be enthusiastic to celebrate and declare our God. Is that within us, and do we allow that free expression?
- God has not only done external things we can see, but internal acts of greatness to renew and transform our minds and hearts. This is by no means any less marvelous or beneficial for us to marvel at
- In fact, God alone is worthy of this level of praise
- 1 Peter 2:9-10
- The more we grasp God’s attributes and works, the more we can and should be compelled to declare his worthiness
- But this same sense of awe and excitement inspired by our observations is often missing when we talk and think about God
- We aren’t eager enough to declare God to those around us. How do we act and respond when we’re “out”? Often we hesitate or pause at best–we shrink a little
- David is known for many things, like building the temple. But his contribution toward worshipping God has lasted far, far longer
- Psalm 40:3-10
- The target for worship is declaring the greatness of God. Should your knowledge and relationship with God allow you to be silent? David wanted to give that to God, and wanted everyone to know, too
- Psalm 145
- This psalm reflects David’s true desire. This reflects a lifestyle transformation, and it makes crystal clear his heart for God
- If we can feel this way about natural events and sights, can’t we feel this way about our supernatural Creator and Savior?
- David was motivated to share his awe vertically with God, and also horizontally with his fellow Man
- If we have our eyes open, we’ll see many opportunities to witness and express and share our God and our love of Him
- 1 Corinthians 4:15
- John 12
- Psalm 57
- If these things can bring people to God, what of apathy?
- What do our guests glean from our involvement and passion for worship or discussion participation?
- Matthrew 28
- The Great Commission in Matthew 28 has a context of worship for a reason. Evangelism naturally follows from worship
- We are not to keep the Savior for ourselves
- Nothing matters more than God—and we are to recognize this holistically thru mind, heart, and action
