ABF 19.35 LN

  • GOOD MORNING
  • ”Authority must be given”
  • The world says to “take authority” for yourselves, but this is different than how God operates
  • Submission is a key component to God’s way for authority
  • Hope is something we want to give our faith to and the way in which we’re more easily able to submit to authority
  • Through David’s life we can see how hope was there despite his imperfection as a leader
  • David’s big sin of adultery does in a sense tarnish his character as a man. Though man is disheartened when their leaders let them down in this way, God is able to see the dynamic nature of a man like David and still be pleased with him.
  • 2 Samuel 8: 14-15
  • David’s story teaches us that even those who lead a victorious life for God still need to be  vigilantly against sin
  • 2 Samuel 12
  • We see David’s vigor here but even he struggled in the ways in which he was warning and rebuking the people. His own vigilance fell short
  • What hides in our own evil schemes? What narratives do we employ to avoid confession and repentance?
  • David doesn’t worry the consequences of his actions so much as he worries about his trespasses against God
  • Psalm 51
  • This expression of David is blasphemy to the world yet shows how David was oriented toward God first and foremost
  • David looks to God for renewal rather than dwell on his own sinful nature
  • Are our reactions to things in the right order … with God at the center? Whether that means reacting to positive or negative things
  • We have a tendency to mourn for ourselves before we even consider God in our lives … to feel sorry for ourselves rather than how we failed to glorify the Lord.
  • 1 Thess. 4: 13-14
  • David had the same hope as the writers of the NT
  • Matthew 5: 4
  • We see in David a man who is prepared to accept the consequence for his own sin, humbly,  yet still looks to God for renewal. He accepts the good and the bad, from the same God
  • Ultimately David led with the hope of Christ
