ABF 19.32 LN

  • GOOD MORNING
  • God lifts up his chosen people in humility: Moses, David, Jesus, etc
  • God holds many titles: Everlasting, Omni____, King of Kings, … does he share in the common thread of humility as His chosen people throughout history?
  • Through the creation story we see God’s methodology … that their were humble beginnings. A lot was done before animals let alone man entered the picture
  • A clear foundation was made
  • If we had the power to create something from nothing (ex-nihilo), how would we employ that power? Likely with less humility and slowness.
  • This month we look into David’s life with the question: How does his story show us who God is?
  • Agency isn’t simply the act of being quickly decisive, but decisiveness whether fast or slow
  • Christ is the quintessential example of humility
  • Acts 3: 22
  • Matt. 1: 1
  • God’s model for his perfect king (Christ) is one of humble beginnings
  • King saul is described as a man who stood out both physically and in his nature – for better or worse
  • 1 Samuel 8: 5-7
  • God rejecting Saul as king and opting for a young David to be His King is yet another example of His humility. Man’s wisdom is not God’s
  • Even after David is anointed by Samuel we see his humility on display when he goes to [former] King Saul to comfort him in his grief
  • David seemed to be accepting of God’s slow timing and plan for his life
  • Do we accept God in that same way?
  • 1 Samuel 17: 8
  • When David stepped up to be the one who toppled Goliath, he isn’t worried about greatness. He’s worried about the Living God
  • Far from seeking his own glory, David recognizes his role as a servant of God. Not a conqueror, not a grand champion of war but a humble position.
  • 1 Samuel 17
  • By man’s understanding, David was in no position nor was he even closed to equipped to take down this giant.
  • But David in his agency, submissive to the Living God, was ready to go forward in faith and service to Him.
  • Do we prepare humbly for God’s timing?
  • Do we do the things we need to do as we serve God? All the mundane, all the scary, all the uncomfortable things as we prepare for God’s glorious return?
  • When it comes to our agency, everything is significant. Every detail and act is woven into God’s story

QUESTIONS:

  1. HOW ARE YOUR HUMBLE BEGINNINGS ALSO ABOUT CHRIST?
  2. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT GOD’S TIMING IN YOUR OWN LIFE RIGHT NOW?
  3. HOW MIGHT YOU STAND UP AS A CHAMPION UNDER GOD? WHAT ARE THE POSSIBILITIES OF THAT HAPPENING?
