ABF 19.26 LN

  • GOOD MORNING
  • We continue on this morning analyzing the life and agency of JACOB
  • The consequences of Jacob + Esau’s conflict would follow both of them moving forward
  • God had declared Jacob the leader of that family before they were even born. The problem came with how Jacob implemented his agency … lies, manipulation, lack of love for his brother and so on
  • Genesis 24
  • Genesis 28
  • Esau sought to hunt down his brother Jacob because of that misunderstood agency
  • On the run, relationships broken, family ties severed … Jacob is in a bad way
  • Genesis 28: 12
  • At this point in time it would seem that Jacob’s relationship with God isn’t where it could or should be considering who is father and grandfather were
  • God in this moment of crisis speaks out to Jacob and doubles down his promise to Abraham and his descendants. He reaches out to Jacob and tells him it’s his too
  • The blessing that God gives us oftentimes isn’t what we think of. Man’s wisdom says one thing while God’s may say something entirely different
  • When Jacob awoke from his vision/interaction with the Lord the scripture says he sprung up. Completely rejuvenated and alive to take hold of the agency God declared for him and his promise
  • When we think about what’s ahead for us, do we consider that inconvenience/struggle/discomfort may be a blessing from God?
  • When we think about what’s behind us as well, do what sort of filter do we apply to those experiences? Do we allow God to be the God of yesterday, today AND tomorrow?
  • Jacob moves forward a different man
  • Genesis 29: 14-15
  • QUESTIONS:
  • WHAT HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED THAT CHANGED HOW YOU VIEW YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD?
  • HOW HAVE YOU REACTED WHEN THINGS DID NOT SEEM TO GO YOUR WAY?
  • HOW HAVE YOU USED YOUR AGENCY TO PLEASE OTHER (vs GOD), AND HOW DID THAT WORK OUT?
