ABF 19.7 LN

  • We are noble because of God’s doing, not our own. This should be part of our identity in Christ
  • We’ve been adopted into God’s household and all the inheritance which comes with it
  • These are glorious truths, and we would do well to remember the point of it all…
  • Today we’ll be talking about eternal life. “To the ages” in Greek
  • Merely living forever physically may not be the greatest thing
  • This may not appeal to a person who experiences a lot of suffering in this life–there must be more
  • John 17:3, “And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth”. Eternal life is  much more than quantitative. It’s quality-oriented
  • We are made to be blessed by being with God.
  • As a car was designed to run on gasoline, we are designed to run on the presence of God
  • Heliotropic plants physically turn their face to follow the sun. This is what our heart needs
  • Some people think death kicks off eternal life–but this is a misconception
  • We can begin living this life immediately with the acceptance of Christ and the Holy Spirit
  • John 5:24, 6:47
  • 1 John 5:12
  • If you haven’t accepted this new nature of life now, you may be having some problems
  • Many non-believers reject God, but still want to hold onto some kind of afterlife
  • If you don’t love worship, fellowship, and intimacy right now, then what will you do in Heaven?
  • John 11:25-26
  • Eternal life is never lost. John 3:16
  • God is trustworthy time and time again, so we can depend on these statements and promises
  • John 10
  • So how do we get this eternal life? There’s beauty in the simplicity
  • John 3:1-21
  • Nicodemus, a Pharisee and a rival of Jesus, is in a pickle. He’s legalistic and law-oriented. He’s seeking how to take that last step into righteousness. But Jesus denies all he’s worked for in favor of faith
  • The truth is that He needed to see God’s work and believe–not believing in his own work
  • Romans 10
  • Whoever makes the commitment to God’s Son and Messiah, they are granted eternal life and honor
  • God made this simple path because He so loved the world…
  • To the degree that He loved the world, God gave up His only, absolutely unique Son
  • The fruit of this love is life everlasting
  • It would be easy for God to view humanity as broken and in need to further and further punishment
  • God is many unique things, but He is not of this world and doesn’t work in its ways
