- What does our nobility look like in Christ? Do we even accept this idea?
- Nobility is to have special honor assigned to you
- Our culture today wants desperately to be special for any reason they can find
- But there’s no gauge to value the way in which a person is special
- Our honor is found in and thru God’s Son, no on ourselves or our works
- We are born again into the home of the King of Kings
- Romans 8
- When man comes into the world he has no meaningful glory. We fall short
- But in Christ, who lives in us, we have God’s glory
- Colossians 1:27
- We await the inheritance from the same Father as Jesus
- Romans 8:15-17
- The text says “since” we are His children. It’s established already
- Adopted children were not inferior to biological children in Paul’s time
- They had all the benefits and inheritance that the bio children had
- An inheritance was more secure than anything you could purchase
- We seek to attain and purchase and achieve glory, but inheritance is far better
- Galatians 3:26-4:7
- 1 Peter 1:3-4
- Our agency as believers is to strive for Christ alone–to claim Him alone
- Colossians 3:24
- What is the reward? Perfection, holiness, completeness, and much more
- Revelation 21:1-7
- Do we live like this–with this truth?
- God freely offers this future and inheritance to all who will receive it
- We will not be put on the same level of authority and deity with Christ, but we will share in much of His inheritance and even responsibilities in the new creation
- Is Jesus jealous or ambivalent about the Father’s plan to lift up us undeserving wretches?
- John 17
- Does this sound like someone who is reluctant, bitter, or indignant?
- The world says that achievement lifts us out of suffering and into glory
- But God says suffering and obedience and faith is what lifts us to glory–it’s countercultural
- For the apostles and other parts of the world today, this means martyrdom
- We’re not there yet, but working on it and physical danger may not be far off
- Scripture calls us to partner with Christ by our suffering.
- It unites us and confirms our inheritance thru Christ
- Romans 8:18, it’s nothing to compare with what’s coming
QUESTIONS:
- WHAT SPECIAL HONOR HAVE YOU WRONGLY CLAIMED OUTSIDE OF CHRIST?
- HOW ARE YOU PREPARING FOR YOUR INHERITANCE AS A CO-HEIR?
- HOW DO YOU ALLOW YOUR HOPE AND EAGER EXPECTATION OF YOUR INHERITANCE TO TRIUMPH OVER SUFFERING?
